A 1692 William and Mary gold five guinea piece, near VF
Sold for £8,400

We all know that a gold coin is going to have value, but do you actually know how much? Even coins with well established values such as gold sovereigns can see huge variations in value, if they bear a rare date or mint mark. For example a 1937 sovereign often makes around £2,000, many times the perceived value you might think it would have. A good reason to take advice from our specialist before selling!
Modern proof gold crowns also cause keen bidding, including examples only a few years old - often these can be produced as very limited production runs, meaning that the demand may not have been satisfied and as such collectors are keen to obtain an example on the secondary market.
