The fascination of being able to build unique models from kit form has been around for hundreds of years but dramatically increased with the creation of Meccano, Lego and Airfix kits in the early 20thC.

Whilst these names are probably the most recognisable in their field there are hundreds of different manufacturers out there that have created between them tens of thousands of models some of which are highly sought after by collectors. 

Condition, especially of the boxes, is key and as soon as a model kit has been glued together it value is almost always reduced to nothing. Luckily this isn’t a problem with Lego and Meccano which can be dismantled ready to be made into another fascinating model.
